At Stellar Skin + Body, we take health and hygiene ‘very’ seriously for both your comfort and safety, and our own – we always have and always will. It’s just one part of the exceptional experience we deliver on a day to day basis. When you walk into our clinic, you enter a clean, fresh, sanitary environment and can relax knowing that your treatments are being provided with the highest level of health and hygiene in mind.
In response to COVID-19 we are taking all possible steps and precautions to ensure we remain a safe, comfortable place to visit.
What extra precautions are we taking?
- hand sanitiser is available throughout the clinic and all clients are expected to use this upon entry.
- ensuring hard surfaces including reception counter, eftpos machine, door handles etc are sanitised/disinfected before and after every client.
- non-essential items such as magazines and chocolates have been removed from the waiting area.
- the toilet including all taps and handles are being disinfected after every client.
Every effort is made to dispose of any materials used after each treatment correctly and in accordance with any government and local laws and regulations.
Metal instruments and tools (such as tweezers) can not be thrown out. These are thoroughly cleaned and sterilised with hospital-grade disinfectant and/or alcohol based wipes both before and after each client.
Hand sanitisers are placed around the clinic and we invite all clients to use these.
All hard surfaces are thoroughly cleaned with alcohol wipes throughout the day – including reception desk, EFTPOS machines, coffee tables and so on. We even use a carpet and hard floor sanitiser.
Towels are used heavily throughout all our treatments. Every client will receive a fresh set of professionally cleaned towels. We don’t re-use or flip towels between clients.
It’s arguably one of the biggest expenses a salon or clinic faces. For this reason, many of them including day spas will flip their towels and sometimes even reuse the same side of the towels for consecutive treatments/clients.
All our towels are professional cleaned and supplied by Gouge Linen and Garment Services. They are single use only!
Skin Needling / Microneedling
All too often we see clinics taking serious risks with this treatment.
Thousands of tiny holes are being punched into your skin. There should be no exceptions when it comes to ensuring the environment is clean, sterile and safe for such a treatment.
Everything that touches your skin once we have cleansed and sterilised it, is also sterile. This is what we refer to as the ‘sterile field’. Essentially, nothing that isn’t sterile enters the field or touches your skin.
Everything from the surgical gloves to the needling tip and cotton balls are 100% sterile and medical-grade. No expense is spared and nor should it be!
The laser hand-piece is cleaned before and after each client with a medical grade disinfectant. This ensures no skin particles or bodily fluids are passed from one client to another.
Because of the time it takes, many clinics simply wipe the hand-piece down with a damp cloth (if that) and place it back into the machines holster. This is a breeding ground for bacteria – that eventually gets transferred to you.
In waxing terminology, ‘double dipping’ is the act of putting the spatula back into the wax pot after wax has been applied to the skin. This is a disgusting practice and has the potential to transfer bacteria, viruses, fungi and bodily fluids back into to the wax pot; only to then be applied on other clients. It’s a disturbing thought but extremely common in this industry.
We have a ‘no double dipping’ policy that ensures our therapists are using clean, disposable spatulas for each application of wax.
This is a very common cost cutting method for many salons and clinics. They will use the same spatula during your entire treatment.
That spatula could have been used on several clients before you, in places you don’t want to imagine!
The most obvious sign of this practice is the use of a metallic spatulas. If you see one of these sitting in or next to a wax pot, it’s probably best to find someone else to do your waxing!
We no longer use wax rollers/cartridges but if you visit as salon that does, make sure they are single use only and disposed of after your treatment.
Some salons will reuse a cartridge several times to make the most of every bit of wax in the cartridge. Again, this is another cost cutting method but in turn puts your health and hygiene at risk.
Our therapists wear disposable gloves during all waxing treatments and the waxing tables are lined with clean, disposable sheeting for each client.
The silicone rods used during your treatment are never reused. Each application is single use only. This also applies to the solution applied to your lashes.
The silicone rods are a big expense when it comes to Lash Lifts. Many salons will reuse the silicone rods several times over before throwing them out.
Ever wondered why our Lash Lifts may cost a little more than our competitors? Now you know why!
We are not in anyway implying any specific business, salon, clinic, day spa or otherwise of taking part in these practices. We are simply highlighting some issues that you, as a paying customer, have a right to know. We’ve worked in this industry for a very long time and seen a lot of questionable practices taking place. It’s unfortunate but there are many who are willing to put your health, hygiene and safety at risk for the sake of saving a few dollars. We simply do not and will not.
